Parivrtta Supta Padangusthasana. Iyengar Yoga Tutorial. Supine Poses. (Leg across the body)
A 5 minute yoga tutorial to introduce one of the more challenging supine leg lifts which takes the leg across the body. Although as a Beginner to yoga you can work gently in the modifications of this pose, it is an Intermediate asana and we would not advise Beginners or those who are very stiff to practice this. Standing poses will help you if your legs are tight. We would recommend you look at our Beginners Yoga series:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTNL-...
You will need a yoga belt or a strap.
This yoga series builds on Supta Tadasana with Urdhva hastasana arms and starts off your practice of the supine asanas which comprise: Supta Padangusthasana 1, 2 and 3, Parivrtta Supta Padangusthasana and Janu Sirsasana.
In the supine poses, we use gravity and the resistance and stability provided by the floor to develop greater extension and alignment in the body. Parivrtta Supta Padangusthasana is particularly effective at stretching the external rotators, the periformis, and the IT band. You have to work accurately, and you can feel if the alignment starts to waver because your lower leg will move away from the floor or away from the centre. If this happens, you can start again.
if you are new to yoga. If you have a stiff hamstrings and leg muscles we suggest this playlist for you:
